If the drum in the washing machine does not work, and when scrolling emits creaking sounds, it may have flown out of its place. This happens for various reasons, which we will consider in the article.
You will also learn how to conduct an independent diagnosis and fix the damage with your own hands.
Why does the drum fly off
How can you understand that a drum has flown in the washing machine? Do an independent check:
- Open the hatch door and spin the drum by hand. If you hear a rumble and rattle - this indicates the wear of the bearings. The same thing happens when you notice backlash by shaking the drum back and forth. That is, the drum has shifted or sagged, as a result of which a gap is formed between it and the tank. This means that the car needs urgent repairs.
- Run the spin program in the washer at maximum speeds. If you hear a rumble and beating of the drum against the walls, it was ripped off the axis, or it hung on the edge of the shaft. There may be problems with both bearings and shock absorbers.
- Scroll the drum by hand. If it rotates slowly with extraneous sounds, it seems that it has fallen off the shaft. The reason may be in the drive belt: it could slip off or come off.
- Take a look at the back of the drum through the bottom of the washing machine or through the rear panel. If there are visible streaks of water, production, the cause of the breakdown in the bearings.
To summarize and consider the main causes of failure with the above symptoms:
- Drive Belt Problems. It could stretch out or wear out.
- Bearing wear.
- Shaft deformation.
- Damage to shock absorbers or suspension springs.
Now you know what the problem may be. You need to check all the options.
How to fix a flown drum
There are several ways to replace a flown drum, depending on the type of breakdown. You need to start with the simplest.
Drive Belt Check
- Unplug the machine.
- Having unscrewed all the screws around the perimeter, remove the back panel and check the condition of the belt.
- If it has flown, put it on the engine shaft first, then on the drum pulley.
- To make installation easier, put on the belt by turning the pulley by hand.
- If the belt breaks, replace it with a new one. Each product has a serial number by which you can pick up a similar model.
If, after checking, the belt appears to be in order, continue with the diagnosis.
Springs and dampers
If the tank fell and fell into the housing, the cause is a malfunction of the springs, which attach the tank with the drum from above. During spin and high revolutions, the springs keep the tank from jumping off. If suddenly one of the springs bursts, a replacement is needed.
How to align the drum:
- One end of the spring is attached from below to the tank, the other from above to the body.
- To remove the spring from the bottom, you need a lot of force.
- Lock the tank at the top so that it does not oscillate.
- Pulling the spring down with your hand, unhook its hook from the tank, and then from the machine body.
- Do the same with the second spring.
To remove the springs from the top, place an object underneath the tank for stability. Then use a screwdriver to pry off the spring hook and remove from the housing, and then from the tank. New parts are worn in the same way.
After checking, it turned out that the reason was that the shock absorber (damper) was unscrewed or broken? Then it needs to be replaced.
In modern CMA models, a damper is used as a more advanced version of the shock absorber. It is much more difficult to remove the shock absorber, because you have to pull out the tank. But to dismantle the damper in most washers, the front panel is removed.
What to do if the damper breaks:
- The lower part is bolted to the body. Remove this bolt to detach the part.
- The upper part is attached to the tank on the bushings with latches.
- Neutralize the latches by fitting a nut or socket wrench on the back of the sleeve.
- Use a pair of pliers to pull the bushing toward you.
- Now you can remove the damper from the housing.
In the future, they should be firmly fixed so that the drum does not rip off during the spin cycle.
Bearing replacement
If the drum fell off the shaft, it means that the bearings have long been working for wear. This is usually heard by a strong roar during the operation of the AGR. Therefore, at the first signs, it is necessary to immediately replace, and not wait, until the shaft with the cross is worn out.
We wrote about replacing bearings for different models of washing machines in previous articles, for example, “How to replace a bearing in a Samsung washing machine”. You will need to completely disassemble the washer, and if the tank on your model is not collapsible, then you will have to saw it with a hacksaw for metal.
When buying, take a full repair kit specifically for your brand and model SM. It includes two bearings and one oil seal. It is also useful grease for the seal, which will protect the bearings from water.
You can do the replacement of parts with your own hands, if you wish. It is better not to bring about serious damage and periodically perform machine diagnostics.
Now you know how to check if the drum has flown in the washing machine, and you can perform the initial repair.
